We have all been there, when you pray and hear nothing.
It seems like you're praying into the void.
It's all silent. The Big Man up there seems to not be answering your prayers.
In the Old Testament, God went silent a few times when his people sinned and committed idolatry.
Saul's example in 1 Samuel 28:6 stands out:
He inquired of the LORD, but the LORD did not answer him by dreams or Urim or prophets.
He was about to go out to battle against the Philistines. The stakes were high.
He inquired of the LORD.
But God said nothing.
Seems unfair, right?
You see, God had rejected Saul because his heart had departed from him. Saul had repeatedly disobeyed him.
By this point, the Spirit of the LORD had departed from Saul, and God was no longer answering him as he once had.
Saul could have turned back to God in repentance. But we all know he didn't. He remained hardened in his ways.
But here's a sharp contrast. Hebrews 13:5 says:
I will never leave you nor forsake you.
That's a promise.
Even if the world around you is set on fire, he promises to NEVER leave you.
The silence isn't an indication that he has left.
Sometimes we look for God in places he's not. He's a Spirit.
God is Spirit.
- John 4:24
That means he speaks and relates to us spiritually.
But we can miss him when we set ourselves to only look for him in the physical.
Maybe God never stopped speaking.
Perhaps you just tuned out of his frequency.
Tune back in :)
